The book follows a real life story of a Malawian woman with a Scottish heritage who lost her father's fortune to the oppression of colonists. To escape poverty,young Zione married to a seemingly good man who abused her in a foreign land. When she broke free from the shackles of her abusive marriage Zione now a mother of three returned to school and became a teacher at forty years old.Her determination in fighting against the odds to bring education in the remote area of Kwacha became a foundation of hope for many children.
